Traction Alopecia

Traction Alopecia is hair loss caused by repeated trauma to the hair follicle or from constantly placing your hair into tight hairstyles. Early detection is key in reversing this scalp condition but preventing it from happening in the first place is best.

Tight does not mean right!!!! Constantly pulling your hair into tight ponytails, wearing tight braids/cornrows, tight weave installs, constantly sleeping in rollers, and tight dreadlocks are some of the styles that can cause Traction Alopecia.

Please do not ignore signs like stinging, itching, redness of the scalp, blisters, soreness, tenderness, and a receding hairline (just to name a few) because it can lead to permanent damage of the hair follicle; which would mean permanent hair loss.

To prevent this; its suggested to change your hairstyle often, give your hair a break between protective styles, speak up if your stylist is styling your hair too tightly, remove the style immediately if you notice blisters, redness, & inflammation, avoid friction, and maintain/implement a scalp care routine!

If you attempt to address this issue at home and your remedies/treatments are not helping or making your condition worse, please seek help from a medical professional immediately. Early detection provides protection!

Take care and be beautiful 😘
